What is business process management?
Business process management (BPM) is the systematic approach to improving an organization's business processes, making them more effective, more efficient and more capable of adapting to an ever-changing environment.
Although the initial focus of business process management was on the automation of mechanistic business processes, it has since been extended to integrate human-driven processes in which human interaction takes place in series or parallel with the mechanistic processes. An example is where an individual steps in the business process of a loan application. Human intuition or judgment may need to be performed if the loan approval exceeds a specified amount.
Why do we need business process management?
Every organziation's day-to-day work practices, from shipping clerk to CEO, require processes to be managed. Business process management provides:
