ActiveVOS Designer
ActiveVOS Designer is an intuitive graphical development environment based on the Eclipse 3.4.1 framework.
Leveraging the power of Eclipse, ActiveVOS Designer allows developers to immediately become productive in visually
creating business orchestrations, while providing flexibility to also take advantage of other plug-ins offered by the Eclipse community.
We offer a full distribution of ActiveVOS Designer which is a complete pre-configured Eclipse environment, as well as this plug-in only
distribution for developers who wish to simply add ActiveVOS functionality to their existing Eclipse installation.
Pre-requisites
The only pre-requisite for installing the ActiveVOS Designer plug-in distribution is to have Eclipse 3.4.1 installed on your
client machine. The plugin distribution contains contains everything else you need - including plugins for Web Tools Platform Project (WTP) and
EMF Validation
Plug-in Install
Prior to installing the ActiveVOS plugins it is recommended that you first back-up your existing Eclipse environment.
To install the ActiveVOS plug-ins:
- Unzip (Linux users will untar) the compressed distribution to a temporary folder
- Exit from Eclipse if it is currently running
- Copy the contents of the "/eclipse/dropins" folder from the temporary location to "eclipse/dropins" folder in your Eclipse environment
Running the Designer
Installing the ActiveVOS Designer License
- Start Eclipse
- When Eclipse first starts, select the <Activate> button when prompted
- Enter your name and <browse> to the location of your ActiveVOS license file
- Select the <Update> button
- Select <OK> on the update confirmation dialog
- Switch to the ActiveVOS perspective (Window / Open Perspective / Other / ActiveVOS)
Creating a New ActiveVOS Embedded Server
The ActiveVOS embedded server provides you a way to test deployment of processes.
If this is a new installation, you will need to create a new embedded server.
- If you haven't already done so, switch to the ActiveVOS perspective (Window / Open Perspective / Other / ActiveVOS)
- Select the Servers View
- In the Servers View, Right-mouse and select New / Server
- The ActiveVOS Server is selected by default, so just select the <Next> Button
- Accept default information on the following panel and select <Finish>
Installing the ActiveVOS Embedded Server License
- Start the embedded server by clicking on start-server button in the toolbar of the Servers View
- When the server has started, navigate to http://localhost:8080/activevos/home.action either in a standalone browser, or by
selecting the ActiveVOS Console toolbar button.
- Select the "Admin" link in the console
- Select "License Information" from the console
- Select the <Add License> button
- Copy the ENTIRE CONTENTS of your DESIGNER license file into the dialog
- Select the <Add License> button
- For the first time only, you will need to start the ActiveVOS engine (going forward, this will happen automatically when the embedded server starts)
- Select the "Admin" menu item in the console
- Select "Server Status" from the console menu
- Select <Start Server> button
